In the Episcopal Church, we encourage thinking, questioning, and the exploring of the faith. Our Christian Formation offerings are meant to be a safe space to learn, to teach, and to discover God in new ways. During the school year, we have Sunday School offerings available for ages three and up.
Sunday School
Pre K3 – 6th Grade: Godly Play
Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. We value what children bring to worship, fellowship, and the classroom and appreciate that they already have a spiritual life of depth that adults may not understand. The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond. We meet in the Godly play rooms on the top floor of our Christian Education building. Come play with us!
6th – 8th Grade: J2A
Our Jr. High class is meets in the “centering prayer room”, upstairs in the Christian Education building. This group is using materials from the Journey to Adulthood program. J2A is centered on inclusive, relational ministry and uses Bible study and prayer to engage more nuanced topics with our Jr. High aged students. Please note the overlap in ages for this program. Parents of 6th grade age kids are able to choose which program best fits the maturity level of their child.
9th – 12th Grade: Faith Lens
Sr. High aged students are invited down to the parish offices (319 University Dr.), for coffee, fellowship, and a deeper dive into the faith using the Faith Lens curriculum. The parish offices are in a house that backs up to our church property, so they can easily be accessed from our main campus. The front door of the home is the best entrance for this class.
Adult Offerings
Our adult offerings vary from season to season, often having multiple options. We’ve done basic lectionary bible studies, a whole biblical survey class, an exploration of the lives of the saints, and more. A few months out from our bishop’s visit, the rector offers inquirer’s classes for adults and confirmation classes for teens to explore Christianity more deeply, and to gain a better understanding of the Episcopal Church.
